PATH Frequently Asked Questions
How is the PATH Transition Program funded?
PATH is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and is a registered vendor with the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). Applicants under 21 will be paid from district education funds. The district case manager will need to be involved in the application process to confirm eligibility to receive this funding. Applicants 21 and over can access funding through their DDD budget. The support coordinator will need to process the request and have the funding approved. Private pay may be considered if an applicant is not eligible for either district funding or DDD funding, or in the event the amount approved does not cover the full cost of the program.
Who is eligible to participate in the program?
Individuals eligible to participate are ages 18-25 with a documented primary diagnosis of autism and are motivated to engage in all academic and social activities. Individuals must have appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
How soon should applications be submitted?
Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling basis and will continue to be accepted as space remains. Space is limited, and interested individuals are encouraged to submit the application as soon as possible.
What happens after applications are submitted?
The application materials will be reviewed, and applicants who are eligible will be invited to participate in an interview. Applicants will be notified of their application status by email.
What campus amenities will PATH students have access to?
PATH students will have access to Felician University amenities including the dining hall, fitness center, computer lab, gaming center, and study areas. PATH students will be registered in the Felician system and provided with a student account, student ID, and student email.
Is on-campus housing available?
No. PATH students will not have the option to live on campus.
Can PATH students purchase a meal plan?
Yes. PATH students can purchase a meal plan to use at the Felician University Dining Hall. The amount will be determined by and paid directly to Felician through the PATH student’s Felician University account.
Can PATH students take college classes through Felician University?
Yes. While not guaranteed, PATH students who have the inclination and aptitude will have the option to meet with PATH and Felician directors to determine eligibility. PATH students who are approved to take a Felician University college class will be responsible for paying tuition, which will be determined by and paid directly to Felician.
What is the PATH Program length?
The PATH Program is two years long. Applicants must commit to participating in the full two years.
Is transportation provided?
No. The PATH Transition Program does not provide transportation. PATH students will need to arrange their own transportation to and from campus and work-related activities.
What does a typical day look like for PATH students?
PATH students will participate in classroom learning, discussion based exploration, staff supported skills practice, and hands-on experiences on campus and in the community. The daily schedule will vary based on the curriculum unit and work-based learning experiences.
What curriculum is used by the PATH Transition Program?
Classroom instruction is based on the licensed Learn4Independence® curriculum. Areas of focus include: Work, Finances, Safety, Relationships, Nutrition, Identity, Health, Etiquette, and Transportation
What do PATH students receive upon completion of the program?
Students who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion from the PATH Transition Program.
What kind of work-based training will be provided?
PATH students will receive a mixture of classroom instruction, site visits, and hands-on training to increase their employment related knowledge and skills.
What kind of work-based learning experiences will be available?
The work-based learning experiences will depend on the availability of the site locations and may vary. PATH hopes to match students with opportunities that meet their interests and goals.
