Dear Friend,
Your child has autism. No parent wants to hear these words. For Denise and Juan, those terrifying words became a reality when BOTH of their young twins were diagnosed with autism. Julia and Jonathan were fortunate enough to attend REED Academy from an early age where they received intensive, individualized education that helped them grow and thrive.
But at age 21, public resources for the twins—and thousands of others like them—virtually disappear. And as these young adults age out of their state-funded education, they are left with little to no guidance or resources at a pivotal time in their lives.
Imagine the sudden elimination of daily structure and specialized support that has been critical to your child’s development. As the number of adults with autism surges, there are simply not enough quality programs and services to support this vulnerable population. Right now, an alarming number of adults with autism in New Jersey are on waiting lists for quality day programming and long-term residential care. All parents worry about their child’s future. But when your child has autism, the worry is even greater. That is why we’re asking for your help.
Just this month, we were able to secure a warm and inviting apartment for Julia and Jonathan to live together; where they receive the individualized support they need to live fulfilling and productive lives. This milestone was only made possible thanks to the commitment and generosity of the REED community.
Can you help us OPEN THE DOOR for others?
Every individual deserves the opportunity to live as valued and respected members of their community. Your gift enables us to secure a brighter future for adults with autism—and offer their families the peace of mind that their children are safe, happy, and thriving.
When you give to the REED Foundation for Autism, you’ll help further our mission to help individuals with autism reach their full potential, at every stage of their lives. Please take this moment to give as generously as you can. Together, I know we can make a difference.
With heartfelt thanks,
Chantelle Walker
